Whether you know it or not, Twitter is a great way of keeping in touch with friends and colleagues. Personally, I also use it to keep up with journalists as well as my clients and their competitors.
But it can be so much more then that. Below are four of the most creative and varied ways of using Twitter that I’ve seen so far.
The laundry room Twitter account helps residents at Olin College’s West Hall check on the availability of washing machines at the campus Laundromat. Anytime a washer or dryer is available, a Tweet is automatically sent out to the local residents following the Laundryroom account.
The Albion in Shoreditch, London is using the first BakerTweet device in its cafe. BakerTweet is a way for busy bakers to tell the world that something hot and fresh has just come out of the oven, all of the baker’s followers get a Twitter alert to let them know they should get down to The Albion bakery pronto to get their mitts on the tastiest and freshest cakes, pastries and bread.
Intercontinental Hotel Dubai Tweeted clues to landmarks around Dubai. Followers had to work out which landmark they were talking about and get down there quickly to claim a range of prizes.
The DIY Twitter watering project from the guys at Botanicals means even the most forgetful among us will never forget to water their beloved house plant again. It’s all done using probes that detect moisture, which allows your plant to tweet you a message when it needs a drink.

Twitter’s still a relatively new phenomenon and increasingly people are coming up with new and exciting ways on how it can be used. You really are only restricted to your own creativity.
